Hampshire trail by 42 runs with 3 wickets in hand Sussex started the day in a strong position and ended it in an almost impregnable one. Surely only the weather can now stand in the way of a vital Sussex victory?
Just as the doctor ordered, Hampshire wickets fell regularly from early in the day. Although the last four partnerships yielded as many runs as the first six, Hampshire were forced to follow on, 169 runs distant from Sussex's remarkable 426.
Correy Collymore was the pick of the bowlers with 4 for 60, while Lamb produced some fine rear-guard resistance with an unbeaten 54. Ollie Rayner again bowled with great control, conceding less than 2 runs per over.
In their second attempt, Hampshire reached 58 for 1 and then disaster struck, losing 3 big wickets for just 8 runs. By the close, Hampshire had struggled to 127 for 7 with Rayner leading the destruction, ably supported by his colleagues, with career-best figures of 4 for 49.
Hampshire are still 42 runs behind with only 3 wickets standing, and Sussex are on course to take maximum points from this game. If they maintain this form, we could have a thrilling second half to the season. What would Mr Warne say? Sussex County Cricket Club |
