Sussex on the attack at the castle - 18-07-2008
|
Hampshire trail by 295 runs with 5 wickets remaining Sussex ended play on the second day of the LV County Championship match against Hampshire at Arundel in a dominant position.
Resuming their innings on 316-5, Sussex lost the early wickets of Martin-Jenkins (59), Ollie Rayner (0) and Ragheb Aga (11).
Murray Goodwin and Corey Collymore put on a vital 74 for the ninth wicket and when Goodwin fell caught behind on 184, the score was 422-9. Corey Collymore soon experienced the same fate, as he returned to the pavilion with a well earned and immensely valuable 20.
Sussex finished with 426 and had secured full batting points.
Hampshire's reply couldn't have got off to a worse start, as they lost Brown in the second over for 0 to the bowling of Corey Collymore.
Sussex continued to dominate and Hampshire found themselves 46-3, with Carberry (3) and Lumb (10) back in the pavilion.
A meagre fight back took place, but when Chris Adams caught Ervine at first slip off the bowling of Ollie Rayner for 17, Sussex were back on top.
Rayner also claimed the prize scalp of John Crawely for 70 and after a couple of rain delays, Hampshire finished the day on 131-5 - still 295 runs behind the champions with 5 wickets in hand. Sussex County Cricket Club |
