Body found at Little Horsted - 15-05-2008
|
Following a report by a woman walking her dog in Worth Lane at Little Horsted, just south of Uckfield, police attended the scene on Thursday morning (15 May) at around 10am and discovered a body, which appears to be that of a woman.
The body is heavily decomposed. We are considering the possibility that it may be Diane Chenery-Wickens who has been missing from her home in Duddleswell, since January this year. It is an obvious line of enquiry.
The body, which is clothed, has been discovered concealed in undergrowth about ten yards from the lane.
There will be a significant amount of investigative work at the site before the body can be removed. Forensic and post mortem examinations will be carried out in an attempt to establish formal identification and cause of death. This may take some time.
DCI Steve Johns, who is leading the investigation, said: "Whilst the potential link with the Diane Chenery-Wickens' case is an obvious line of enquiry we need to keep an open mind until the formal identification and investigation of the scene has concluded.
"I am appealing for witnesses who may have seen any suspicious activity in and around this lane since the beginning of this year. Anyone with information which may assist with an investigation into the discovery of this body should contact Sussex Police on 0845 60 70 999. |
