Somerset 399-3 at close of play on day 1 ... Sussex won the toss on a sunny, but windy, day in Taunton, and decided to bowl first. The bowling attack found it hard to make any breakthrough, as Trescothick and Edwards put on 151 for the first wickets. Trescothick eventually fell caught behind off the bowling of Corey Collymore - his first wicket for Sussex - for 74. Edwards hung around with Hildreth, but fell in bizarre circumstances and was run out by Chris Adams on 99. The Somerset skipper Justin Langer made an impressive 44, but was caught behind by Matt Prior from the bowling of Ollie Rayner. James Hildreth raised his century and is currently 127 not out at the close of play, alongside Zander de Bruyn, who is on 37. Somerset are 399 for 3 at the close of play on the first day.
