Dereham Town

Dereham Town, formerly known as East Dereham is surrounded by country views and farmland with agriculture traditionally being the towns economy.

With weekly markets occuring twice a week (Fridays being main market day and Tuesday holding a smaller market), a Farmers market also takes place in Dereham every month.  

Free parking has helped Dereham become a very popular shopping centre and has a great selection of shops. As we know shopping can build you up an appetite, or maybe you just need some time to decide on what outfit to buy, what better way to decide over a light refreshment with friends, with many bars, restaurants, and tea rooms each only a stones throw from each other you will be spoilt for choice.  Norwich, however, only 17 miles from Dereham is the counties main shopping centre.

Whilst Dereham may be very relaxed it offers plenty of opportunity to keep fit with Leisure centres offering keep fit classes, swimming, tennis, golf and bowling.  Not fogetting the leisurely walks Dereham has to offer, take a stroll at your own pace and loose yourself admiring the scenery and wildlife and remember how to enjoy the simpler things in life.

Dereham Town has its own football club also known as The Magpies.

Dereham has held host to many famous names including novelist Brian Aldiss and footballer Harry Cripps.

Dereham is also known as the place where the poet William Cowper passed away, a commemorative stained glass windown is in St. Nicholas Church where Cowper was buried.

Dereham town also hosts Mid Norfolk Railway headquarters, the railway runs trains to Wymondham which is a journey of 11.5 miles. You may recognise this railway, a part of it was used as a location for the filming of the t.v. classic Dad's Army
