About Breckland District

The are of Breckland covers around 400 square miles, it is made up of 113 civil parishes and has a population of 129,900.

Breckland appeals to  many visitors as there are lots of things to see and do, crammed with wildlife and countryside Breckland remains a calming yet interesting place.

Breckland has four main market towns full of charm, sophistication and character, with many friendly folk always happy to tell you the history of their town with Thetford town being the largest and the remaining three towns being Dereham, Watton and Swaffham

Its council is based in East Dereham

Borough of Thetford, a market town and civil parish in the Breckland area of Norfolk, England. It is on the A11 road between Norwich and London, just south of Thetford Forest. The civil parish (area of 29.55 km²) has a population of 21,588

East Dereham Urban District, Dereham is situated on the A47 road, approx 15 miles west of the city of Norwich. Dereham  also known historically as East Dereham, is a town and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk.  The civil parish has an area of 21.51 km² and in the 2001 census had a population of 15,659 in 6,941 households. Dereham is the centre of administration for, the district of Breckland.

Swaffham Urban District & Swaffham Rural District, Swaffham is a market town and civil parish in the English county of Norfolk. The town is situated approx  12 miles east of King's Lynn and 31 miles west of Norwich. The civil parish has an area of 29.57 km² and in the 2001 census had a population of 6,935 in 3,130 households

Wayland Rural District, Wayland is situated approx 20 miles west of Norwich

Mitford and Launditch Rural District, was an old grouping of parishes for administrative purposes in the County of Norfolk
