Man being questioned over Poole stabbing - 29-08-2008

Detectives in Poole are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward in confidence after a man was found with stab wounds in the town centre.

A 25-year old man from Poole is currently being questioned by detectives after being arrested by police in Poole town centre this morning, Friday, 29 August 2008.

Dorset Police was contacted by the ambulance service at 8.43pm last night, Thursday, 28 August 2008, after the ambulance service had been called to Market Street in the town centre.

A 28-year old man from Poole was found to have sustained multiple stab wounds to his chest, abdomen and arm. He was taken to Poole Hospital for treatment.

His condition in Poole Hospital is today, Friday, said to be poorly but stable.

The park behind Market Street near Dear Hay Lane was sealed off by police while a forensic search was carried out - a search that is continuing this morning, Friday.

Armed officers, as well as an officer with a search dog, were deployed and conducted a search of the area for the offender - a search that was negative.

Police officers have also been carrying out house to house enquiries and detectives are also examining closed circuit television from Poole town centre.

A Dorset Police spokesman said: "We are pursuing several specific lines of enquiry and a man is helping detectives with their enquiries at Poole police station after being arrested.

"We are appealing to the public for information and all calls will be treated in the strictest confidence."

Detectives are appealing for anyone who saw or heard any unusual, suspicious or out of the ordinary activity in the vicinity of the park behind Market Street near Dear Hay Lane yesterday evening, Thursday, to contact Dorset Police as soon as possible.

Police are also keen to hear from anyone who saw or heard an altercation in the vicinity of the Sainsbury's supermarket at Pitwines in Poole town centre earlier yesterday evening, Thursday.
