Detectives in Bournemouth are appealing for witnesses and a man to come forward in confidence after a man was assaulted in the town and left with a broken arm - with one man being arrested.
Just before 4pm on Friday 22 August 2008, an altercation occurred in Charminster Road, near Charminster Place, in the Strouden Park area of Bournemouth, which resulted in a 39 year old man sustaining a broken arm. Detective Constable Rachel Skinner, of Bournemouth CID, said: "I understand that the assault may have followed a verbal altercation when a man ran after the victim and assaulted him. "I suspect that three men got out of a white car of some description - and it was one of these men who carried out the assault on the 39 year old victim who is a Bournemouth man. "I believe that a man, possibly a pedestrian or a nearby resident, shouted across the road towards the men and as a result of this the assailant stopped his attack. "It's very important that I speak with the public-spirited man who decided to take action when he saw what was happening - it's quite possible that his intervention may have prevented the victim suffering even more serious injury. "The area will have been very busy with pedestrians and vehicle at 4pm on a Friday and I need to hear from anyone else whose attention was drawn to an incident near Charminster Close. "I'd also like to hear from anyone else who has information about this incident or about those involved and I can assure all callers that their call will be treated in the strictest confidence." A 22 year old Bournemouth man has been arrested and since released on police bail while enquiries continue. The victim was taken to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital and released after treatment. Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police in confidence on 01202 or 01305 22 22 22 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
