The South West RDA has given Bournemouth Council a £50,000 grant towards the Town Centre Master Vision. The money will help fund work to develop a regeneration company to implement the vision, including engaging with property and legal specialists. Cllr John Beesley, Deputy Leader of the Council, said: "We're delighted the RDA has invested in the project. We share their goal of creating a sustainable economy and a vibrant Bournemouth. "This funding is the strongest vote of confidence by the RDA that we will deliver on the Council's ambitious regeneration programme for Bournemouth.'' Tony Bray, Area Director at the South West RDA, added: "This work will explore how the public and private sector can work together through a new regeneration company. "There is significant potential through this work to improve the pace of regeneration and growth of Bournemouth's town centre. The scheme will undoubtedly have a major positive impact by unlocking Bournemouth's business potential and that is why the RDA is delighted to be backing this initial stage of work." The regeneration company, which would be a partnership between the Council and a private developer, could generate hundreds of millions of pounds towards better leisure attractions, high quality shops and enhanced outside space as well as improvements to the transport network and a reduction in carbon emissions. Whilst the developer's contribution will largely be financial, the Council would invest some of its assets to the partnership, such as car parks and potential development sites. The RDA has been involved in vision meetings. Consultation into the Town Centre Master Vision is now underway.
