Robert Dunlop dies after bike incident - 15-05-2008

Northern Ireland Motorcyclist Robert Dunlop has died after suffering severe chest injuries in a crash in Thursday evenings practice session at the North West 200 in Portrush.

Robert Dunlop's brother Joey was killed when taking part in a bike racing event in Estonia in 2000.

Dunlop was said to be travelling at around 160 mph when the accident happened this evening and eyewitnesses claimed that the bike appeared to seize before he was thrown over the handlebars.

Mr Dunlop was rushed to the nearby Causeway hospital but died of his injuries around 10pm.
