Childrens Tax Allowance
The BackGround
When the government introduced child tax credits in 2001, the Inland Revenue made errors with their distribution. Consequently, many families may have missed out on up to £1040 at the end of the tax year 2002/2003. Don’t worry; you can claim the money back. However, this must be done before 31st Jan 09 so there’s no time to waste!
How much can I claim?
Each tax year you were entitled to claim approximately £520. Additionally, if you had a baby within the tax year 02-03 you are eligible for twice that amount. The maximum tax refund available is £1040.
But do I qualify?
· you have at least 1 child that was under 16 at the start of the 01/02 or 02/03 tax year; and
· they lived with you for at least part of that tax year; and this applies whether
· you are married, co-habiting with your partner or a single parent, and
· you have not yet received the tax relief (check your 02/03 tax code if starts with a 6 or a 7 and end with the letter ‘H’ then you probably have had the money); and that
· either you or your partner earned over £6,000 in the 2002/03 tax year.
It’s not essential that you have your P60’s – send in the claim form anyway
Please note: Tax credits that you are currently receiving will not be affected by this claim
