BOTANIC GARDENS, BELFAST HOSTS FREE LIVE OPERA

The Royal Opera's The Marriage of Figaro

Wednesday 16 July at 7pm

Mozart's classic opera The Marriage of Figaro will be beamed live from Covent Garden's Royal Opera House to a big screen in Botanic Gardens, Belfast as part of the BP Big Summer Screens Programme 2008.

Belfast residents can watch the world-famous production on Wednesday 16 July at 7pm. 

The free event will be one of 19 screenings around the country as thousands of people enjoy free world-class opera and ballet in their own local area.

In addition to Belfast, The Marriage of Figaro will also be relayed live to Trafalgar Square, London; Canada Square, Canary Wharf; Chertsey Road, Sunbury; Duthie Park, Aberdeen, Victoria Square, Birmingham, Clayton Square, Liverpool and Lakeside, Thurrock.Mozart's energetic comic masterpiece, The Marriage of Figaro has delighted audiences for centuries and remains as entertaining today as ever. 

Figaro is on the verge of marriage but his boss is trying his luck with his fiancée whilst another guy is making advances on the boss's wife - but it doesn't stop there - a lawyer turns up to take Figaro to task on an earlier promise of marriage! The Marriage of Figaro is a hilarious tale of class struggle and infidelity.

The BP Summer Big Screen relays are a great opportunity for people to get together, bring a picnic and enjoy wonderful ballet and opera for free - the events have continued to grow in popularity regardless of the UK's notorious summer weather!

BP has supported the Big Screen live relays of opera and ballet performances direct from Covent Garden since 2000.  The generous ongoing support of BP has allowed ROH to build a wider network of events around the country in order to broadcast live performances simultaneously to more people than ever before.  The Royal Opera House has screened performances in the Covent Garden Piazza since 1987.
