Basingstoke and North Hampshire hospital heard this week that planning permission has been granted to allow for 192 additional spaces in the bottom car park. Donna Green, deputy chief executive, explained, "We are delighted to hear we can now work swiftly to enable the additional parking spaces are available as soon as possible. This is just one of a number of plans for improvements to car parking. During the summer we also plan to add a barrier entrance to the car park which will be more beneficial to our visitors. The Foundation Trust is also developing a travel plan to ensure we are using all opportunities to ensure the best use of car parking and alternative methods of travel." From 1 May 2008 Basingstoke and North Hampshire NHS Foundation Trust have taken the management and security of their hospital car parking in-house. This has allowed the Foundation Trust to have more stringent control of the spaces available. The first change to be seen from the 1 May was the introduction of the £1 for one hour charge. This is in direct response to feedback from patients and visitors. All other charges remain unchanged. With current pressures for spaces on site the Foundation Trust is developing a travel plan with the development of specific project groups. These are made up of a team looking at the physical environment and future planning, a team tasked with managing the operation of car parking and alternative travel and a stakeholder travel user group. www.northhampshire.nhs.uk |
