Police appeal for witnesses after assault in Basingstoke - 17-05-2008

Police in Basingstoke are appealing for witnesses after a teenager was assaulted in the Basingstoke War Memorial Park on Saturday, May 10.

Sometime between 9.30pm and 10.30pm the 16-year-old victim was chatting with a group of young men in the park.

However a dispute occurred and he was then assaulted by members of the group, suffering a broken cheek bone.

He was treated at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.

One of the men is described as: 

• White
• Aged between 17 and 19
• 5ft 10ins
• Skinny build
• Short blonde hair
• Wearing a light and dark striped polo shirt

PC Jonathan Ramchurn, of Basingstoke police station, said: "This was an unprovoked attack and one we are taking seriously.

"There were a number of young people in the park at the time of the incident and we would urge any witnesses or anyone with information to contact police as soon as possible."
