PARKS
Barnet was originally a completely rural area, and signs of this remain in the large number of parks and open spaces throughout the borough. In fact, there are over 200 of these in all. Here are just a few of the main ones:
Childs Hill and Basing Hill Parks - Adjacent parks, both with shrubberies and flower-beds, football pitches and play areas.
Cherry Tree Wood Park - Open woodland and grassland with large quiet areas, and a play area.
Edgwarebury Park - Formal and informal gardens, with facilities for cricket, tennis and football.
Friary Park - A formal Edwardian park comprising the grounds of Friary House. Quiet, intimate gardens and large open spaces.
Hendon Park - A formal Edwardian park with avenues of plane trees.
Mill Hill Park - A large open park with ornamental flowerbeds and a nature reserve.
Oakhill Park - A large informal landscaped park, with outstanding views. It contains Oak Hill Woods, a 15 acre semi-natural ancient woodland.
Old Court House - Formal gardens with an ornamental pond and rockery, plus sports facilities for bowls and tennis.
Sunny Hill Park - On an open hillside with superb views. Popular with walkers.
Swan Lane Open Space - A semi-formal park with a pond, a nature conservation area and many mature trees, including a large group of giant redwoods.
Victoria Park - A Victorian formal park with ornamental shrubberies and flowerbeds, and a large area of open grassland with avenues of trees.
