Connexions project development fund - 03-07-2008

Brent Connexions Service are now inviting applications from voluntary sector organisations that work with young people, for their Project Development Fund.

Brent Connexions provides information, advice, guidance and support for all young people aged 13 to 19, (up to age 25 for young people with special needs/learning difficulties and disabilities), including vulnerable young people requiring more substantial one-to-one support.

The 2 main targets that underpin the work of Connexions are:

  • prevention/reduction of young people aged 16-18 who are not in education, employment or training (NEET)
  • keeping in touch with 16-18 year olds in the borough in order to prevent their situation from becoming unknown.

Applicants will need to demonstrate how their projects will be contributing to these targets in their work with young people. All organisations applying must be either based in Brent or intending to deliver a project in Brent for Brent young people.

The Grant fund has been allocated in the following way:

Short projects (up to 31st of March 2009) - total grant fund for this is £30,000 to fund 2 projects for up to £15,000 each.

Longer projects (up to 31st of March 2010) - total grant fund is £80,000 to fund 4 projects for up to £20,000 each (£10,000 to be spent by 31st of March 2009 and a further £10,000 for the second year to be spent by 31st of March 2010).

The fund is available for projects that meet the needs of young people in the groups listed below:

  • children whose families are travellers
  • young people from black and minority ethnic (BME) Groups
  • young people who have special educational needs (SEN) or learning difficulties or disabilities (LDD)
