Is Your Business Website Down?
The majority of times when a website is down for less than a few minutes is due to the unreliability of internet connections and has nothing to do with the website or the servers it is located in. This means that the website and servers are working fine but the server cannot establish an internet connection due to temporary loss of service from the internet service provider.
There are many reasons why an ISP might temporarily stop providing a service: Surge in demand, electrical problems, hardware and software problems, power surges, damaged cables and even the weather can all cause the ISP provider to briefly stop proving an internet service. The majority of times these outages last for less than a few minutes.
Businesses should not be too concerned if their website goes down for reasons beyond their control as the internet is not 100% reliable as it should be although it is a lot more reliable than it used to be. Internet connection problems and therefore very short periods of downtime, less than a couple minutes are the norm and affect all websites.
In the future it is expected that the internet will become a lot more reliable as we all move to fibre optic cables.
