Mad Hatters Markets at Brighton Marina - 7th March 2009
March Madness at Brighton Marina
The Mad Hatters March Market...Every Saturday and Sunday at Brighton Marina.
Popular lore says that the tunnel in Sussex Square's private gardens (leading to Black Rock neighbouring the marina) inspired the opening sequence of Lewis Carroll's famous children's story Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. So it is with this in mind that we have decided to run the Mad Hatter's Markets here at Brighton Marina, each weekend in March starting on Saturday 7th.
Offering you more than your average street market, there will be an eclectic mix of 80+ stalls located indoor and outdoor, to surprise and tempt you. Simply have a browse, or go rummaging for that unusual gift. The markets are back following the success of the Christmas market.
Eat Me: delicious cheeses and olives, cakes and nuts. Drink Me: have a latte in the local bars & cafes. Wear Me: beautiful locally made jewellery and clothing, hats and scarves. Paint Me: local artists' canvasses. Buy Me: unusual gifts including money boxes and children's toys.
Is it too hot to handle
New to the Mad Hatter Markets is the cult chilli festival Fiery Foods UK which opens its first store at the Mad Hatter Markets in Brighton Marina, it's original home where the festival was launched 4 years ago. This Dragons Den of anything hot and spicy will include many local made hot products that cannot be found in any supermarket. Anyone who dares enter the store will be fired up by the range of chilli based foods and drink, including exclusive 'naga' products, officially the hottest chilli in the world measured at 1 million scoville units!!!! From
mild chilli sauces to award winning vinegars by Stratta, cute Sussex chutneys by Aunty Vales and chilli chocolate by Cocoa LocoMost of the food and drink on sale is made by small local producers who do not sell in any shops, so while you treat your taste buds you are helping the local economy too.
Marina supports local charities
Local charity Sparkles and Surprises are opening a magical children's and adult's jewellery store in Mermaid Walk. The charity takes some of the county's sickest children on fantastic trips each year and you can support them simply by visiting the store and buying some of the most fantastic jewellery and affordable kits for children, including beautiful wooden treasure chests and much, much more.
Faretrade Market returns to the Marina
Lovethatstuff runs Brighton's biggest Fair Trade Market, they traded at the Marina over Christmas and have returned to our March Mad Hatters market for the whole of March. Kirsty Harris from Brighton Marina said it's fantastic that we can support this fabulous charity who have projects as diverse as rehabilitating street children in Nairobi to funding transport for deaf children to and from school in Bolivia. You can buy a wonderful range of fair trade jewellery, clothing, art, accessories, household goods, coffee and world range of delicious food.]
Each week, between 11am-4pm, follow the white rabbit signs until you hear the music from the live stage - packed with local entertainers dancing, singing and performing throughout the day.
The Marina is open as usual, so once you have browsed the market don't forget to visit the excellent bars, restaurants and entertainment venues who are all offering fantastic credit crunching deals. To see all the offers available at the Marina visit the website. Updated weekly with offers that can't be beaten.
Don't forget parking is FREE to marina visitors so there's no rush when you get here..
