At Akamba, you'll find four acres packed with fun for children of all ages. This includes our African aviary, nature trail, play area, pet zoo, café and the fabulous tropical house, filled with a wealth of animals, butterflies and birds.

Akamba Safari Lodge

Further afield, on the edge of Tsavo East National Park in Kenya, they are developing a dream destination for a breathtaking safari holiday.

Ferns

At Akamba, we have a huge range of tree and ground ferns, suitable for indoor and outdoor cultivation.

Most ferns thrive in shady, damp positions, although many will tolerate full sun if kept well watered.

All of our hardy tree ferns (Disksonia Antarctica) are harvested from cleared alpine forests in Southern Australia and Tasmania making them ideal to most UK conditions, given a little protection in exposed areas.

We have a full range of usual and unusual hardy ground ferns.

Palms & Cycads

At Akamba, we specilise in cold hardy palms and cycads with huge potential for gardens in the UK.

Moreover, we also stock an extensive range of house and conservatory palms and cycads.

All our palms are evergreen and most are very easy to care for, some virtually maintenance free in gardens. Several species may be grown outside in most parts of the UK, with basic winter protection. However, some species require no protection.

Most of our palms are available from seedlings to mature specimens.

Easy Exotics

In this section we have grouped a full range of plants for your garden, including ariods, bananas, bamboos, perennials, grasses and shrubs which will give your garden the exotic touch.

Many of the plants are familiar favourites which will exist side by side with more rare and unusual plants not often seen in cultivation.

Gift Shop

We are passionate about African Art; and that is demonstrated by the pieces we purchase.

We do not rely on intermediaries. We hand select the finest pieces direct from original artists in a variety of African nations. This not only ensures that our high standards are maintained but that the benefits to the craftsmen concerned are maximised.

We make every endevour to select pieces made from trees harvested from managed and sustainable forests. We will not knowingly sell products from endangered species, such as tropical hardwoods.

The AKAMBA giftshop is a sensory feast, full of colour, texture and smell. This really does epitomise Nelson Mandela's concept of rainbow nations.
