East Kent Therapy Rehabilitation Alliance Limited (EKTRA) was formed in July 2007. Using knowledge and skills acquired whilst working 20 years for the NHS the company director, David Pearce, developed EKTRA into a multiple service company. Our business was established in partnerships with local GPs and Practice Based Commissioners. Our objective is to provide a safe, cost efficient and high quality musculoskeletal physiotherapy service to NHS patients within the local community.

Practice based commissioning allows groups of family doctors and community clinicians to develop better services for their local communities, resulting in high quality services for patients in local convinient settings. Being approved providers of physiotherapy services by the Primary Care Trust and preferred providers to local GPs, we believe our company and the service we provide to be unique in that we are able to offer flexibility by tailoring our services that best deliver what local people and practice based commissioners want.

Service users (NHS patients) benefit easy and quick access to our services, they have a choice of location and treatment, no waiting times, and extended hours of practice which includes late night and Saturday morning appointments. If patients are unable to travel to their local GP Surgery or Health Centre, then arrangements are made for the patient to be treated within their own home.

Practice Based Commissioners benefit from purchasing our service as it reduces their financial burden by reducing secondary care referrals, and the service is value for money and has no waiting times. It allows flexibility, control and ownership of the service for the GP practices unlike historical standard NHS provision. Our service enables an 'in control' mechanism for quality and patient safety and encourages maximum satisfaction of patients and service users for GP practices. Our services foster and promote collaborative and joined up working within the PCT sector.
