Beacon centre for the blind is in the heart of Wolverhampton and helps thousands of people every year.
MISSION STATEMENT:
To help local people with sight loss live fuller and more independent lives by offering them the finest facilities and support. Our services include a mix of residential, day care and community services, and we continually look for ways to improve what we do.
Beacon Centre for the Blind is the only organisation in Wolverhampton, the Black Country and Staffordshire providing a comprehensive range of services for children and adults living with sight loss.
We provide:
Residential accommodation with a full care package or independent living with help at hand.
Daycare with a variety of activities including arts and crafts, IT, keep fit, fishing, horse riding, swimming.
A resources room with a comprehensive range of equipment on display.
Community support.
Social groups in several local towns.
Day trips and longer holidays.
A youth club for children with sight loss and their guests.
A talking newspaper.
Six charity shops across the Black Country.
Beacon Centre is currently undergoing a site redevelopment at a total cost of £18 million. The Centres partnership with Bromford Housing Group and the sale of surplus land means that the majority of the funding is assured, leaving a balance of £2.3 million to be raised through our Second Site appeal. The new centre is due for completion in June 2009
