Hair Styles Defined

MILITARY

Military cuts are easy. Save the shears and clip away. These are low maintenance hair cuts that are easy to manage and leave you free to focus on what you're working on. Ask for a high-n-tight or a flat top.

Maintenance Tools - None
Who - Soldiers, athletes, astronauts, engineers
Barber Visit - Once a week

MESSY/MODERN

The messy modern hair cut is the current leader in men’s trendy hair cuts. This style sometimes referred to as bed head, spiky, or messy is simply a classic men's haircut that is messed up using gel and stays looking messy the whole day.

Maintenance Tools - Hair Gel
Who - Young men, entrepreneurs, metrosexuals, urbanites
Barber Visit - Once every two weeks

LONG HAIR

Long hair is not very popular these days. There are only a few groups that find this style acceptable. If you have long hair be sure to keep it clean and condition it a lot. Long hair is high maintenance and should be brushed frequently. If you are a metal head, just ignore it until it is perfect!

Maintenance Tools - Conditioner, brush, comb, detangler
Who - Surfers, metal heads, hippies, new agers
Barber Visit - Once a month

EXTREME

Red hair, green hair, spikes, and shaves, clubs, bars, or at raves. Extreme haircuts are for people that live extreme lives and aren’t afraid to let their hair express it.

Maintenance Tools - Gel, dyes, hairspray
Who - Punks, Goths, boarders, rock stars
Barber Visit - Once a month

CLASSIC CUTS

Classic Cuts are not too short or too long; they are just right. Usually they are parted but do not have to be. They have some body but not too much; they are short, with no visible skin. The hair on the lower neck is squared off, not tapered.

Maintenance Tools - Brush or a comb, light hair gel
Who - Teacher, businessman, coaches, contractors
Barber Visit - Once every two weeks

SHAGGY/MODERN

The shaggy haircut dates back to the 60's British invasion. This look has been revitalized by the “retro” movement and is popular among younger men. Shaggy cuts should look uncut but well groomed. Don’t let it go beyond your shoulders.

Maintenance Tools - Brush, comb, gel, mirror
Who - Young men, artists, metrosexuals, urbanites
Barber Visit - Once every two weeks

CURLY/WAVY

Curly or wavy hair can be difficult to style as it is usually hard to control. Unless you’re comfortable with a bush on your head keep it short or relax it with a chemical relaxer and style as you like.

Maintenance Tools - Brush, relaxer
Barber Visit - Once every two weeks

WALL STREET

Wall Street cuts are just like Classic Cuts but have more of an edge, a little longer in the back, maybe slicked back or perhaps just a little shorter than a Classic Cut would be. These styles tell the world you mean business but that you have a wild side too.

Maintenance Tools - Comb, gel, mirror, Brylcreem
Who - Financial analyst, marketing executive, banker, salesman
Barber Visit - Once every two weeks

POLITICIAN

Politician cuts can vary in style but they all share one thing: they are always absolutely perfect. Not one hair out of place. These cuts are for men who carry a lot of responsibility and are in front of people a lot. As such their hair needs to look perfect at all times.

Maintenance Tools - Pocket comb, hair spray
Who - Presidents, mayors, senators, pastors, priests, CEOs
Barber Visit - Once a week

MULLET

The mullet is the most celebrated hair cut today. Though rarely seen, it had reached legendary status as Americans embrace the white trash culture boom. Tell your barber: short in front, long in back.

Maintenance Tools - Brush in back pocket
Who - Construction workers, hockey players, musicians
Barber Visit - Once every two weeks

BALD & BOLD

This easy style is growing in popularity and can be an expression of irreverence, discipline, or exceptional good grooming. This look works well for men of all ages. The trick is keeping it looking slick. Your best bet is to see your barber every week for that completely slick look.

Maintenance Tools - Moisturizer, Sun block
Who - Computer engineers, entrepreneurs, CEOs, trend setters
Barber Visit - Once a week

ASIAN ETHNICITY

Men with East Asian ancestry typically have straight, thick, and darker hair. Style possibilities are varied, depending on personal preference.

Maintenance Tools - Comb, gel
Barber Visit - Once every two weeks
