My name is Melanie and I have a Diploma in the Theory and Practice of Counselling. This qualification enables me to counsel any person on any issue. I have over 300 hours of counselling experience to date and see clients on a regular basis. In addition to this I have attended many extra courses on various counselling techniques and therapies (such as basic CBT) to enable better practice for my clients. Although I do not specialise in any particular area (preferring to work with whatever presents) I do have a lot of experience in treating people with alcohol-related problems.
The counselling model I use is 'Person Centred Counselling' also known as the 'Humanistic Approach'. This is a non-directive form of counselling which means I never give advice. Some people may feel that they want advice at first but I would ask you to come to see me with that feeling as that may be part of the problem. I have external supervision (which is required for all counsellors) every four weeks to ensure I deliver the best possible service to my clients. I aim to provide counselling in a friendly, non-clinical and relaxed environment. I work from my own home and have a dedicated study for my practice which has been described by my existing clients as warm and welcoming.
I pride myself on being honest and 'real' and I would welcome the opportunity to earn your trust and help get you to where it is you want to be, delivering you the best service I can. What a person can typically expect from the 'Counselling Process' In the early stages of counselling a person can expect to feel a sense of relief in talking and sharing events and feelings about this. In the middle stages of counselling it is very normal for a person to experience feelings of being 'stuck' on one issue or feeling like they are repeating something. (This can be the most challenging and emotional part of the process). Toward the final stages of counselling a person may start to feel like things are resolving and that they have choices and a greater awareness of why feelings occur. At the end of counselling a person usually feels more confident and is able to move on with their life, feeling happier.
