Dukes 92 is Manchester’s favourite canalside watering hole located in the heart of the historic Castlefield area of Manchester City Centre.

Originally a stable for working horses transporting goods to and from the nearby Merchants Warehouse (1827), Dukes lies at the meeting point of the Bridgewater and Rochdale canals. The Bridgewater Canal was built by the young Duke of Bridgewater in 1760 and was the first cut canal in the country, heralding the dawn of the canal age. Dukes takes its name from the adjacent “Dukes Lock” which is the 92nd and final lock on the Rochdale Canal. As the bottom lock this should have been No.1, but the canal was built by a yorkshireman who refused to have No.1 in Lancashire!!

The generous canalside patio provides an idyllic setting for the perfect summer pub lunch. We serve a full menu ranging from sandwiches and snacks to constantly changing pasta and chef’s specials. Dukes is famous for it’s hefty portions of cheese and pates served simply and quickly, from our speciality cheese counter, which offers almost 50 cheeses and pates from around Europe served with freshly baked Granary Bread.

Inside Dukes antique furniture contrasts with minimalist décor in a spacious and informal ambience. Upstairs The Gallery with its deep leather sofas in the eves of the building, provides a more intimate spot to enjoy wonderful views over the canals.

Dukes’ popularity has grown year on year . This in part is due to the ever-increasing popularity of Castlefield itself with more and more people stumbling across this historic oasis just a few 100 metres off Deansgate, Manchester’s main street. Other reasons are revealed by Dukes’ General Manager James Ramsbottom:

“Dukes’ success has been due to its versatility as a space. We appeal to all ages and lifestyles because we offer value for money, friendly and efficient service and an attractive light and airy environment that blends and accentuates the history and heritage of the Castlefield area. However, change the music and lighting and Dukes 92 transforms from a pub and eatery enjoyed by trendies and wrinklies alike to a sophisticated late night bar”

Visit Dukes 92, a bar full of the flavour of Manchester, both past and present.
