For local Pubs in Reading, Berkshire Pubs, Sunday Roast, Drink, Food, Lunch, Pubs in Playhatch, Garden Pubs and Childrens Play Area Please visit Shoulder of Mutton.

Featured In Reading Pubs.

Visit this award winning pub for a fantastic meal or a relaxed drink in a friendly environment. Open seven days a week, located within easy reach of Reading & Henley on Thames.

The Shoulder of Mutton was the only pub to be recognized in the 2007 Pride of Reading Restaurant Awards and were Highly Commended Finalists.
In 2005 they joined the Mutton Renaissance Club, HRH Prince Charles as Patron, to become a pub specializing in mutton dishes. This year the Shoulder of Mutton were featured on BBC 1's The One Show, making a Mutton Pie for chef Brian Turner and actor Timothy Spall.
The new look conservatory has brought a new vigor to the Shoulder. It is an ideal setting for bright Sunday lunches, a romantic evening meal or as a great room for private functions. The conservatory seats 30, the pub seats a further 32 people throughout.

There is a lunch time menu which includes;
  • Home-cooked ham, egg and chips (£6.75),
  • Warm organic baguettes (£5.50),
  • Omelet's (£5.50)

..............and much more.

  • The evening menu includes- our signature dish, Slow Roast Shoulder of Mutton (£13.50),
  • King Cod- Cod wrapped in smoked salmon (£12.25),
  • Farmyard Fracas- Lambs liver and bacon (£10.50)

.............and much more besides.

Alan and Wendy Oxlade have achieved a rare balance: a relaxing, informal and friendly ambience with food that is, well... Exceptional

We are open 7 days a week, excluding Sunday evenings.

There is a private walled garden for al-fresco dining or as a run around space for children. We are child friendly but do not serve a child's menu.

There is also a large car park.
