What is Smartlog?

Smartlog is an expert fire risk management system that monitors and audit controls all of your Fire Safety policies and procedures together with having an application to complete fire training for all members of staff and completing a fire risk assessment.

Do I have to worry about being prosecuted under the new Fire Regulations?

NO! Not if you are using Smartlog correctly, it will automatically monitor and control all of your processes for you.

I've never had a Fire Officer visit so why should I bother with the Fire Legislation?

As with any business it makes good sense to stay on the right side of the law, however it also makes the employees feel more valued and protects your business from any possible disruptions ensuring strong business continuity.

What happens if my records are destroyed in a fire?

You will need to provide evidence that all your fire checks were being carried out and that you had a robust process in place to avoid a fire I the first place. With Smartlog all your records and procedures are safe and can be accessed instantly.

Surely paper records will suffice?

Paper records can provide evidence that procedures are in place, but they are cumbersome and can get lost! It also requires excessive time to be spent on ensuring that they are up to date and do not necessarily provide a robust audit trail. If a paper based system is in place you will also have the outlay of training members of staff and having them away from their working practices for a minimum of 2 hours. Smartlog is quick, simple, effective, and compliant!

Who can use Smartlog?

Smartlog is developed for any non-domestic property. It can be adapted to accommodate a small corner shop or pub up to a large Corporate Company with large numbers of outlets or locations.

Do I need to be fully computer literate to use Smartlog?

No. If you can use the internet and search on Google etc. you will be able to use Smartlog. The system was designed to be very user friendly and take into consideration those of us that have limited capability with computers.

What about the Data Protection act, is this an issue?

No. There is no confidential information stored on the system. All information would be available for public record anyway.

The Fire Regulations

The Fire Regulations are enforced by the fire authorities. However, for Crown-occupied and Crown-owned premises, enforcement is carried out by Her Majesty's Fire Service Inspectorate.

Fire precautions legislation deals with general fire precautions. These include:

means of detection and giving warning in case of fire
the provision of means of escape
means of fighting fire
the training of employees in fire safety.
The Fire Regulations also include a requirement to undertake an assessment of the fire risks. (The term 'fire risk' collectively describes both the risk of fire occurring and the risk to people in the event of fire).

Facts & Myths:

Myth: I have a fire risk assessment therefore I cannot be prosecuted.

Fact: A fire risk assessment does not make you fully compliant in itself alone.

Myth: If the fire risk assessment is not suitable and sufficient you will be prosecuted.

Fact: If you complete a fire risk assessment to the best of your ability and in good faith you cannot be prosecuted under article 32 unless you ignore subsequent advice from the FSO.

Myth: You need to have established qualifications to be competent.

Fact: Competence is legally defined as having adequate experience and knowledge of your workplace and not necessarily fire safety, knowledge of this can be obtained from various sources one of which is Smartlog.
