City of York Council's Labour Leader is praising gritting and snow clearance teams who have been working round the clock to keep the city moving despite the severe weather conditions.
Cllr James Alexander visited the city's gritting HQ earlier today to see the teams at work for himself.
He said: "Staff are working flat out to ensure York keeps moving and they deserve a lot of praise. I am receiving regular updates on operations and things seem to be working well.
"The existing council budget can be considered sufficient to meet the cost needed to manage the current poor weather. There is currently no contingency available. In future, I think it is prudent to create additional contingency and in our 2012/14 budget proposals we have included up to a quarter of a million pounds in case it is needed."
