Children from Westfield Primary Community School are going to demonstrate their skills on steel pans, at York Food and Drink Festival on Saturday 25th September, 5.00pm.
The children will give a short performance on the pans, which will then be followed by a workshop that will actually be led by the children. When asked if the children would take part, Music teacher Diane Rowsell said proudly, "Our children could offer a session where they both perform and then lead a "have a go" workshop. The children are MORE than capable of this!!"
Headteacher, Tracey Ralph said, "We are incredibly proud of the long tradition of steel pan tuition at Westfield, and Mrs. Roswell's "Pantastic Steel Band" regularly perform at events in the city; most recently in the presence of the Archbishop of York in July. We are delighted to be part of the York Food and Drink Festival, and grateful to the organisers for giving our children this exciting opportunity."
This performance and workshop will be part of the final evening, in a series of themed events taking place in the Fountain Café, (A large marquee erected over the fountain in Parliament Street)
