If you enjoy the great outdoors, meeting new people and want to take more exercise then City of York council's new fitness health walks are for you.
This exciting new exercise programme is being led by York Health Walks, which already runs various walking sessions around the city. The fitness health walks are guided fast-paced walks that are designed to help improve your fitness and stamina, as they are set at a slightly quicker pace, with an average speed of 4 mph.
Cllr Sonja Crisp, Executive Member for Leisure, Culture and Social Inclusion says "We already have health walks, dog walks, Nordic Walks and away day walks as part of a busy York Health Walks programme - fitness walks are the obvious next step."
The group-lead walks last up to an hour and with a different route each week it is a great way to take in the fantastic views York has to offer, whilst getting some exercise and meeting new people. York Health Walks is one of the City of York Council's most popular activities, with more than four hundred walkers taking part in the programme. The sessions are free, so dig out them boots and stride into a fitter 2012.
Walking is an activity that can be enjoyed by anyone, as it is inexpensive and you don't need any specialist equipment. It is also a great way to improve your general health, as walking can help to reduce stress, control blood pressure, manage your weight and it also gives you more energy.
The Fitness Health walks take place every Saturday at 10am, meeting outside Rawcliffe Bar country park office. Under 16's must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and booking is not required - simply turn up on the day.
