County Council cash double for Worthing Birdman
THE Worthing Birdman event will take flight this year with the help of £10,000 from West Sussex County Council.
Worthing County Local Committee, which is made up of the borough's County Councillors, agreed to grant Worthing Borough Council £5000 towards the funding of the event.
The event is also to receive £5000 from the County Council's Keep West Sussex Working budget.
Worthing County Local Committee's grant comes from its Community Initiative Funding - money it has received from the County Council to assist community projects in the district.
Irene Richards, Chairman of the County Local Committee, said: "We backed the first Worthing Birdman last year to the tune of £15,000 because it is a major attraction that gives our borough an international profile.
"Community Initiative Funding is generally not to fund the ongoing projects. The overall aim is to benefit Worthing community by ‘pump priming' new initiatives or supporting one-off applications for specific projects.
"Because of this, we have said that further funding is unlikely to be available next year."
