Wigan Jazz Festival
MANCHESTER Airport are providing a "supertonic" for jazz enthusiasts this year.
The airport group has been confirmed as the main sponsor of the 2009 Wigan International Jazz Festival.
It's the 19th year the airport has supported the festival which this year celebrates the best of British big bands.
Speaking in front of Concorde at Manchester's aviation viewing park, director of the festival, Ian Darrington MBE said: "We have the cream of British jazz talent playing at this year's festival which couldn't have been achieved without the support of Manchester Airport and all our sponsors.
"One of the reasons the festival has been able to grow is through their continued support.
"You'll have to excuse the pun but standing here in front of this famously fast aircraft it really is a ‘supertonic' during these difficult financial times when sponsorship is increasingly hard to come by."
Wigan International Jazz Festival runs for eight days from July 11.
Now in its 24th year it's internationally recognised for attracting some of the biggest names in the jazz world.
Andrew Cornish, Managing Director of Manchester Airport, said: "As a company we are committed to supporting and encouraging the development of the arts in Greater Manchester.
"Wigan's International Jazz Festival attracts artists and tourists from all over the world.
"It's an acclaimed festival that we are proud to be associated with."

Tickets will be on sale from mid-May.
