Bynes were founded in 1977 by John Byne, (Senior Partner), after working for many years in Devon. In 1984 Michael Hayman joined Bynes which bought invaluable Advocacy Skills to the Litigation Department then in 2000 Alasdair James joined as the head of the Criminal Department becoming the firms third partner one year later. The three partners and the firms staff have helped Bynes to become one of the leading legal firms in Torbay.

Originally based in The Terrace Bynes are now located in Union Street just opposite the Magistrates Court.
