Teachers are Top of the Class

TEACHERS ARE TOP OF THE CLASS!

STOCKTON schools and teachers have been recognised for their exceptional
standards in teaching after winning their categories in the prestigious
2009 North East and Cumbria Teaching Awards.

Mike Vening, Headteacher of the Abbey Hill School & Technology College
won the Ted Wragg Award for Lifetime Achievement.  This recognises the
significant contribution of teachers throughout their careers and
commitment to teaching as well as being an inspiring role model to
pupils.

Also at Abbey Hill Kathryn Lindop won the New Teacher of the Year Award
for her outstanding contribution to teaching.

Norton Primary School won the DCSF Award for Sustainable Schools, which
highlights continued commitment by schools to eco schemes.  Norton
Primary was recognised for its eco friendly approach to the curriculum
as well as its long standing Eco Club, promoting eco-friendly schemes to
parents and teachers.

The awards, which took place at the Sage, Gateshead, were founded by
Lord Putnam CBE, and recognise staff, governors and sustainable schools
and their positive influence on the lives of children and their
families.

Julia Morrison Assistant Director, Children, Schools and Complex Needs
for Stockton Council, said: "For three of our schools to be recognised
in these awards is a fantastic accolade. Their work has a positive
influence on the lives of children and their families.  We are very
fortunate to have them in the Stockton Borough and my hearty
congratulations go to them all for their dedication and commitment and
hard work."
