A TRIO of employees from Stockton Borough Council are encouraging local people to follow their lead and take on the Stockton Triathlon on Sunday, August 30.
Joanne Heron, Andrea Hogg and Vicky Fawcett will take part as a team and tackle the standard distance of a 1,500m swim, 40km cycle ride followed by a 10km run. The group, who all work together in the Council's Leisure & Sports Development team, will tackle one section of the challenge each - Joanne will put her swimming skills to the test in the River Tees, with Andrea and Vicky taking on the cycling and running respectively.
Joanne Heron said: "I'm really looking forward to getting going. It'll be a fun event and we want to see as many people as possible take part. You don't have to be super fit to do a triathlon and there is even a shorter distance if you fancy a speedier challenge."
The sprint triathlon is a 750m swim, 20km cycle ride and 5km run. Both the Standard and Sprint triathlons can be entered by individuals or teams.
Councillor Ken Lupton, Leader of Stockton Borough Council, said: "Good luck to Joanne, Andrea and Vicky, I'm sure they'll do us all proud.
"This is our third triathlon and it's getting more popular every year. As well as being a great reason to get fit and have fun, it also gives us the chance to show off the incredible regeneration of the riverside area."
