Feathering their nests

NATURE lovers will be able to welcome Wynyard Woodland Park's newest residents to the world via a live webcam.

There are nine Blue tit eggs in the birdbox at Wynyard Woodland Park which are due to hatch any day now.  The eggs are on view to the world via a webcam so keen bird watchers will be able to watch the eggs hatch and then see the baby birds fledge after about three weeks (around the second week of June).

This is Wynyard's third brood of chicks - the first brood of nine chicks left the nest successfully on 9th June 2005. In Spring 2008, another nine chicks make it into the outside world.  Blue tits can have up to 10 chicks in any one brood and up to three broods in any given year so Park staff are hoping to have another brood in the nestbox soon.

Councillor Mary Womphrey, Stockton Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Arts, Leisure and Culture, said: "Logging onto the webcam gives you the chance to see nature work its magic. You will be able to see the eggs hatch, the baby birds grow and fly the nest - all from the comfort of your own home."
