The menu has something for everyone and is based on 'appetizers' 'snacks' and 'mains' to tempt your learning appetite!
Courses in the snacks and mains are accredited with the Open College Network from a level 1 up to a level 3. The courses will begin week commencing 15 September and will be held at various local SureStart Children's Centre and satellite centres across the Stockton Borough. All courses are free and a free crèche runs alongside them, but places are limited and are provided on a first come first serve basis.
The ten week 'Appetizers' offer courses on Memory Books, Bugs and Bacteria, Sexual Education Road Show, Personal Development, Our World, Card Making, Oral Hygiene, Confidence Building and Mood and Relaxation.
The 'Snack' menu is bigger than the appetizers where there's a two week course on Mentoring Awareness, Healthy Lifestyles, First Aid Awareness for Parents, Independent Living & Budgeting and The Importance of Play.
Moving on to the 'Main Course' these sessions are fun filled and run for ten weeks looking in depth at Parenting, Basic Counselling Skills, Nutrition, Healthy Living, Employability, Introduction to Special Needs Level 2, Child Development and Weight Management and Exercise. Look out for details at the following centres: High Flyers, Family Centre and Riverbank all in Thornaby.
Barleyfields, Ingleby Barwick, Ragworth Neighbourhood Centre, Frederick Nattrass School, Redhill Centre, Roseworth and Elm Tree Centre, Stockton, Sunrise Centre Yarm Road, Newtown Resource Centre, The Star Centre, Stockton, Footsteps Children Centre, New Life Centre in Billingham and Tiny Tots at High Clarence Primary School.
Councillor Ann McCoy, Stockton Council's Cabinet Member for Adult Services and Health, said: "These courses sound a great idea, with something for everyone both in terms of qualifications and fun. The fact they are at so many centres gives everyone the opportunity to go along and try out something whilst meeting new people at the same time."
Registration for the courses will be week commencing 1 September 2008 at various centres around Stockton, to find out your nearest registration centre call Family Information Service on (01642) 527225 or email cis@stockton.gov.uk.
