Alan Whitehead MP has congratulated residents of Erskine Court on their victory against the Council's plan to evict them from their homes.
Dr Whitehead met with the residents on Saturday in advance of them forming a human chain- of celebration!- with neighbours around the Court.
Dr Whitehead said:
"The Council was effectively saying to the residents: you have to choose between having a decent home or being thrown out of your home. It was a high-handed and callous strategy and I'm glad they've now been forced to see sense.
"I am still concerned that the Councillor Baillie [the Cabinet Member responsible] appears to be trying to sell the idea that if the residents don't move, the Council won't perform the necessary upgrades to their flats. That's not at all acceptable. I'll be working with the local Labour Councillors to make sure the residents of Erskine Court get equal and fair treatment."
Alan Whitehead has been working with local Labour Councillors Don Thomas and Keith Morrell to unpick the Council's justifications for closing the block, and for the lack of notice given to residents about the closure plans.
