Let’s party in the street
Southampton residents are being given the opportunity to host their very own street party this summer, as Southampton City Council is eager to encourage everyone to get together to build on existing community spirit.
Sharing food, music and best of all laughter, are just some of the great things you`ll experience at a street party. It`s an excellent opportunity to get to know your neighbours better and the children will love having the run of a traffic free road. There's something special about having an event in your own road where everyone's invited.
To start planning your party simply begin by talking to your neighbours to agree a date. Then you can decide who's doing what jobs; invite everyone and get them to bring food to share, pop on some music and before you know it you`ll be dancing in the street. It won't take much to make it a party for everyone to remember.
Councillor Phil Williams Cabinet Member for Housing and Local Services said "This summer is offering the perfect setting for the residents of Southampton to get to know each other, come together and have a party. It's a perfect opportunity to enjoy a shared experience with your neighbour and have a good time in the process."
If having a street party sounds tempting but you`re not sure what to do or who to speak to, the Council's Active Communities team is the answer and they're ready and willing to help you. They've had specific street party training and have years of experience in supporting community events.
