Next week is national Volunteers Week and in Solihull there are plenty of ways in which you can offer your services.
One option is to give up some time in your local library. Volunteers are needed in to help with local studies indexing (Heritage), older people's home deliveries and starting and coordinating a reading group.
If you are interested, or have any other ideas about how you can help in one of the borough's 13 libraries, please email libraryarts@solihull.gov.uk and a member of the library staff will contact you to discuss further.
If being in the great outdoors is more your style, why not become an Environment Champion? The Champions help out on a number of environmental projects around the borough, with a wide range of activities such as litter-picks, removing graffiti, cleaning up parks, painting benches or clearing ponds.
For information about the Champions, including how to sign up, please contact Trish Willetts, Environment Champion co-ordinator, on 0121 704 6534 or email pwilletts@solihull.gov.uk.
Another way of volunteering in the open air is to get involved with the Striders and Strollers walking group. The group completes regular walks around the borough every week and each one is led by a trained volunteer leader - most of whom started off as walkers.
The routes are mostly flat, open to all ages and abilities and usually last around an hour. For information about their programme or to find out more about volunteering as a walk leader, contact Becky Glover on 0121 704 8075 or email reglover@solihull.gov.uk.
For more information about other volunteering opportunities in Solihull, then help is at hand from Sustain, who work with the Council through the Solihull Partnership.
To see what else you can give up some of your time to, phone 0121 705 8820, email volunteering@solihull-sustain.org.uk or pop into Sustain's volunteer shop in Touchwood during Volunteer Week.
