Police appeal following attempted robbery in Portsmouth
Police are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery in Edinburgh Road, Portsmouth at approximately 8pm on Wednesday, June 17.
A 17-year-old girl from Portsmouth was walking from Tesco in Commercial Road. As she passed the gates of Victoria Park she heard rustling in some bushes.
She felt a tug on the strap of her handbag and turned to see a man behind her showing, what is believed to be, a knife.
The girl kicked the man in the groin and knee before the man punched her in the face. The girl then ran away with her bag, nothing was stolen.
The girl sustained bruising to her face as a result of the incident.
The man is described as:
- Black
- In his 20s
- Muscular, stocky build
- Appeared to have broken his nose in the past but not had it reset
- Scar on his right eyebrow
- Wearing a black or dark coloured baseball cap, grey Nike hooded top with a tick logo across the front, grey Nike tracksuit bottoms and black footwear
DC Daisy Sharma of Portsmouth CID said: "Another man rode past on his bike around the time of the incident on Edinburgh Road. We would appeal to him and anyone else who may have seen what happened to contact us."
