Appeal after Portsmouth man suffers racially aggravated abuse
Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was subjected to racially aggravated abuse outside the Bridge Shopping Centre in Portsmouth.
It happened at around 6.10pm on Friday, July 16, as the 37-year-old man, who is of Bangladeshi origin, was driving his car home from work.
As he drove onto Holbrook Road from Lake Road, he noticed he was being followed by a white van.
The van trailed him until the Arundel Street roundabout where it pulled up alongside his car at the entrance to the shopping centre.
PC Mike Wakefield from the Portsmouth Targeted Patrol team said: "The van driver became verbally aggressive and threatening and hurled a tirade of racially motivated abuse at the victim before driving off.
"The police will not tolerate such behaviour and we take all reports of this nature very seriously.
"The Bridge Shopping Centre would have been busy at this time on a Friday afternoon and I'm sure someone either heard or saw something that might help our investigation."
