Oxford City 3 Hemel Hempstead 0

Oxford City 3 Hemel Hempstead 0

Oxford City produced their best performance of the season as the comfortably defeated Hemel Hempstead 3-0 to secure their first home league win. City gave a debut to on-loan keeper Jakub Jesionkowski but the Polish Under 21 international was rarely called upon as City dominated the 90 minutes. With Lee Steele leading the attack and Michael Lyon and Mark Pritchard causing the Tudors constant problems down the flanks, City looked the most likely to score. However, it was central defender Craig McIlwaine who opened the scoring for City on 13 minutes when he headed home Ashley Kington's corner. City almost doubled their lead on 20 minutes when Kington's low shot from 20 yards cannoned back off the upright.

The Tudors defence were under constant pressure from Lee Steele and the City striker almost opened his account following his recent return to the Club when his first time shot from Michael Lyon's cross shaved the near post. Steele when close again when he seized on indecision in the Tudors defence to toe end the ball narrowly wide.

City continued to impress in the second half and doubled their lead on 54 minutes when Kington's inch perfect cross was flicked past Tudors keeper Sean Thomas by Lee Steele. The introduction of Mark Janes as a late substitute almost paid dividends immediately but his goal bound effort struck Sean Thomas, with the Tudors keeper knowing little about it. City scored the third goal their play had deserved two minutes into added time. Ashley Kington seized on a defensive error and raced into the area before firing high into the net past the stranded Sean Thomas.
