Official opening for new look leisure centres
Three new look leisure centres are to be officially opened next month.
The three centres, Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre, Barton Leisure Centre and Ferry Leisure Centre, have all had their changing facilities and reception areas revamped as part of the £2.2 million pound make-over.
The improvements have taken just over two months to carry out and have also seen extra facilities included like the cycling spinning spin studio at Blackbird Leys and a new gym at Barton.
Councillor Bob Timbs, Board Member for Leisure Partnerships, says: "I am looking forward to officially opening these facilities.
"The spinning studio at Blackbird Leys opened on Monday and the new changing rooms at Ferry have also opened. As other developments are finished they to will be opened to the public.
"I would like to thank all our members who have been patient with us as we carried out this work.
"The improvements have been much needed for some of the centres and I hope that people enjoy using them."
Peter Kay, Chief Executive for Fusion Lifestyle who manage the city's leisure centres on behalf of Oxford City Council, says: "We have been working closely with the council on these improvements ever since we took over the management of the centres in 2009.
"The new facilities fully meet our expectations and Oxford residents will now have access to very high quality but affordable leisure facilities."
The development has been funded from the savings created from transferring the management of leisure facilities in partnership with Fusion Lifestyle. It is due to be completed by the end of October.
