Free Lunchtime By Professor Anthony Slinn

Start date: 18th November 2011 until 18th November 2011

J W Turner and John Constable are well known as perhaps England's finest landscape
artists. In this free, illustrated lunchtime talk, Professor Anthony Slinn describes
his travels ‘in the footsteps' of these great artists and the discoveries his
personal research has revealed.Professor Slinn
studied at Liverpool College of Art at the time of the Beatles. He continued at the Slade School of Art where he was tutored by the great art historian Sir Ernst Gombrich who wrote the seminal book ‘The Story of Art'. Anthony is also a fine painter and his research and enthusiasm for his subject is infectious. The talk
accompanies the exhibition ‘In Turner's Footsteps' by Sheffield based artist Jane Walker.  This contemporary watercolour exhibition is inspired by the work of Turner and focuses on his work after he visited Luxembourg in 1834.
Jane who has lived in Luxembourg has based her experimental watercolour
paintings on the same places that Turner painted. The large and vibrant works explore the chemical nature of paint and how the water based colours react to each other leaving visual traces. The paintings are available for sale with prices starting at £250 each.

The talk takes place in the museum on Friday 18 November at 12.30pm till 1.30pm. The talk is free but it is advisable to book as places are limited. Telephone the museum on (024) 7635 0720 to book a place. Suitable
for all visitors, entry to Nuneaton Museum & Art Gallery is free!
