Milton Keynes Council, working in partnership with Thames Valley Police and Hastoe Housing Association, served a Property Closure Order on a flat in Conniburrow on Wednesday (14/4), preventing the tenants from returning to the address.
The property in Fennel Drive, Conniburrow, was closed after reports of persistent disorder caused by a group of people who took control of the address while the legal tenant was temporarily staying elsewhere.
Over a short period of time, the number of people visiting the flat grew and at times over a dozen people were sleeping there and causing a nuisance. The Safer Communities Unit's Anti-Social Behaviour Team was notified of the problem and took the case forward, resulting in a hearing at Milton Keynes Magistrates' Court.
The magistrates found that significant and persistent nuisance had occurred, and incidents mentioned in statements from PC Dave Goodwin, Christopher Londy from Environmental Health and Mark Frayne-Johnson from Hastoe Housing Association, clearly showed serious nuisance over a period of time. The magistrates then awarded the order which is now in place for a period of three months
PC Dave Goodwin, who is part of the anti-social behaviour team, said: "This is an excellent result which we hope will send a powerful message to anyone who is causing their local community serious nuisance. The level of proof is high for these cases as we are effectively taking someone's home away, however, this power is only used after all other options have been tried or considered.
"The behaviour of the group has been disgraceful. There has been no thought given to the local residents, with loud music, arguing, threats and intimidation. The individuals were warned and given every opportunity to change. They chose not to do so and are now facing the consequences."
