Operations Management Graduate Scheme
A great opportunity has arisen to join a comprehensive and exciting graduate programme with Go-Ahead London, part of The Go-Ahead Group. Working within the groups bus operations, the successful candidates will undertake training involving the commercial and operational aspects of running a bus operation during a two-year programme. The opportunity is based in London, working across central London, servicing the Transport for London contract. There will be a short placement in one of the regional companies, which are part of the group, which will last around 4 weeks. About the Scheme The purpose of the graduate programme is to create the businesses leaders of the future. You will have exposure to different elements of the business, from head office functions such as HR and Marketing, to spending time in the bus depots, understanding the role of the manager within this, and gaining the skills and knowledge of the business needed to succeed. You will be expected to have exposure to the following operational aspects of bus operations on the programme: • Staff management • Work allocation • Service operation and control • Service reliability • Managing employee discipline • Managing local authorities and other stakeholders As well as this, you will learn the various commercial aspects concerning bus operations including: • Service structure and development (route planning) • Tender preparation and evaluation • Scheduling and timetabling skills • Concessionary fares and reimbursement • Setting and reviewing ticket pricing and fare structures • Effectively marketing bus services • Using technology to innovate and develop the customer experience The programme involves training both on the job and also in a coaching and teaching environment. As a cohort of graduates, the successful candidates will come together periodically for training sessions, as well as group projects have a real impact on the business. Knowledge and Skills Go-Ahead London is looking for a driven and determined graduate to join the programme. The individual will have real responsibility from the beginning of the scheme and therefore should be able to communicate with people on all levels and have a willingness to learn, progress and succeed. Required Skills: • Good communication skills both written and verbal • Experience of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook • Basic knowledge of the UK public transport industry • Ability to work under pressure • Ability to work under own initiative or under instruction • Strong focus on customer service and driving customer value • Leadership skills with the ability to communicate effectively • Strong decision making skills • Good problem-solving and analytical skills (finding a range of solutions, understanding their effects and making recommendations) • Confidence in dealing with a range of people including customers, local authority and depot team In return for this you will be offered a full training programme, with a salary of £25,000 per year for the duration of the scheme. Great progression is available within the company, as well as the chance to work in other areas of the business if desired
