Norris Green respects health and wellbeing

Norris Green respects health and wellbeing

DOZENS of activities to improve the health and wellbeing of people in Norris Green begin on Monday 18 January - as part of the city's latest Respect week of action.

The events in the Clubmoor ward - which range from rock and roll and ballroom dance sessions through to tai chi, yoga, walks and sport sessions - fit in with Liverpool's themed year for 2010 which is focused around Health and Wellbeing.

There is a family health day at Clubmoor Children's Centre on Friday 22 January from 10am-2pm where people can receive massage therapy, beauty treatment and information and advice.

And there will also be a crackdown on crime and grime in the area - with squads of workers ranging from street cleaners and graffiti teams through to truancy officers and high visibility police patrols descending on the area to improve life for local residents.

Skips will be placed throughout the neighbourhood for residents to place rubbish in, pest control will be calling at properties to tackle rats and mice and dog wardens will be reminding people to clean up after their pets.

Councillor Marilyn Fielding, executive member for safer, stronger communities, said: "Our Respect weeks of action are designed to improve life for people, whether it's their health, employment prospects or the environment around them.

"By pouring resources into a specific area we can make a visible difference and make it a better place for everyone."

The week of action will also see the launch of a new traders association for Clubmoor on Monday 18 January at the Shaw Trust on Broad Lane in Norris Green.

Councillor Berni Turner, executive member for the environment, said: "The size and scale of the Respect weeks is growing all the time.

"There will be literally hundreds of staff from dozens of organisations working together to improve life for people living in Clubmoor."

Homes in the area have been leafleted with a calendar containing details of the key events taking place during the week.
