A SPECTACULAR community event in honour of William Gladstone's bicentennial will take place in the stunning Isla Gladstone Conservatory.
Liverpool East Neighbourhood team have organised the event which will see around 200 guests from community groups and local organisations celebrating their local community.
It will feature people in Victorian dress, a formal tea dance with afternoon tea and a wealth of historical information plus special guests from St Deinniol's Library, Britain's only residential Library founded by Gladstone in 1894 at Hawarden in Wales.
The event was suggested by Councillor Gary Millar, Liverpool's executive member for Culture and Tourism. He said: "I am fully aware of the tremendous history in all Liverpool's neighbourhoods and how this can be such a driver for leisure and tourism.
"This event has a tea dance theme, but is also about celebrating local history and providing local information. We are also bringing some exhibits from the city centre out to the event so local people can experience them on their doorstep."
Representatives from Liverpool Football Club will be attending and bringing the European Cup with them, the City Council's Park Rangers and Liverpool East Neighbourhood Management Team will be on hand to provide useful local information.
The Everton Collection which is currently on the display at Central Library will be on display as will exhibits from the Gladstone Exhibition normally seen at St George's Hall. And author Peter Lupson who wrote the fascinating book ‘Across the Park' will be chatting to attendees.
Councillor Marilyn Fielding, Liverpool's executive member for Safer, Stronger Communities said: "Neighbourhood staff working with partner organisations have set up this fun day which will see different sections of the community meeting up, having afternoon tea, a dance and being kept up to date about the latest developments in their community in a wonderful venue."
