Merseyside Police is appealing for witnesses following an altercation outside a shop in Newton-le-Willows this afternoon (Tuesday March 9).
Officers were called to Wargrave Road at 2.30pm following reports of a man being injured during an altercation. The 67-year-old local man was taken to hospital where his condition is described as critical but stable.
A 32-year-old woman, also local to the area, was arrested on suspicion of Section 18 Assault. She is currently being questioned at a police station.
The scene was subject to a forensic search and house to house enquiries were undertaken in the area.
