Police are appealing for information as they investigate the stabbing of a man in Havant.
Officers were called to Petersfield Road at the junction with Martin Road, opposite The Heron Pub shortly after 5.00am this morning (Sunday, July 19, 2009).
A 21-year-old man from Havant had been stabbed. He was taken to hospital for emergency surgery after receiving potentially life-threatening injuries. His condition in hospital was described as "stable" this evening (Sunday, July 19, 2009).
A 16-year-old youth from Havant was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, and remains in custody for questioning by police.
The scene of the stabbing in Petersfield Road was sealed off to allow for a forensic examination. Officers are conducting house-to-house enquiries in the area.
Detective Inspector Tara Williams of Hampshire Constabulary said: "This was a serious crime, but I would like to reassure the local community that it's being treated as an isolated incident at the moment. I would like to thank all the witnesses who have provided statements to police already. Officers remain keen to hear from anyone with information, or who may have seen or heard something suspicious in the area of Petersfield Road or Martin Road between 4.00am and 5.00am this morning (Sunday, July 19)."
